Facilities Development

As part of our vision we are looking to re-introduce football pitches back into Collingwood Recreation ground which would entail replacing the North Stand (the one running alongside the Rec) with a dual purpose Park Pavilion and Football Stand within the confines of our ground. We also have proposals to re-site the North Stand covered terrace to the East end of the Ground.(behind the Collingwood Road goal) to provide a more enclosed stadium which would be covered on all four sides.

Site Development Policies DPD: Additional Sites: Adoption Process

Whilst still in their early stages, these plans have passed some major hurdles already to get to the stage where following a lengthy consultation process the Council adopted the proposed development as part of the Council's Planning Strategy.

The result of the consultation period (September 2009 – February 2010) was an overwhelming positive response including replies from not only regular attendees to GGL but other interest groups such as English Heritage, Sutton Cricket Club and Natural England. The process not only provided total support for the idea, but that other suggestions were made regarding access to the facility such as car parking, footpaths, toilets and a cafeteria. Whilst these are all matters that the officers have said will require further investigation, it just goes to show what happens if you get a debate going in a public domain.

It doesn't mean that the bulldozers will be rolling in next April but it does mean that if we achieve our Community Status with the SCFA we will be much more advanced in achieving the facilities to support that Plan.

The Next Stage: Taking The Plan Forward

The club will gain its Community Development Status award from the Surrey FA on 24th April 2010. This will allow us to proceed to the next stage of the Council timetable and give the summer close season and the beginning of next to move forward. We will then have to progress funding streams (we already have an application in with the Football Foundation which we hope will be first in line for the next grant allocation in 2011/2012), partnership schemes, youth and girls football and all aspects of the Football Development Plan.
