Womens and Girls Football Festival

It was fun and football for girls down at Sutton Utd over the weekend of 13/14th February with the emphasis being on 'fun'. On the Saturday Sutton Utd allowed all females free entry to their home game v. Hastings Utd and pre-match entertainment included coaching by England and Arsenal footballer Faye White in the neighbouring Collingwood Recreation Ground and then a girls' football match on the main pitch was followed by a girls' dancing display. A new girl giraffe mascot made her debut and each female supporter who attended received a free, specially commissioned scarf. Some 400 scarves were given away.

Arsenal and England footballer Faye White takes centre stage with our soon to be named giraffe mascot before the kick-off against Hastings United, along with some of the girls taking part in the 2 day festival.

The next day it was the turn of England and Fulham footballer, Marieanne Spacey to train the girls this time entirely in Collingwood Rec. with a feature match taking place. All girls attending received a "Goody Bag" and medal, with 100 being issued.

The whole event was a stunning success with Sutton’s Deputy Mayor, notable LBS councillors and Surrey FA officials attending the festival. Sutton Utd FC is particularly grateful to its sponsors ProActive South London and LOVE2 for its assistance in putting on the event and intends to use this as a springboard for more festivals and developing female football in the future.

Sutton United Football Club is dedicated to the promotion of women's and girls football which forms a key part of our Football Development Plan (FDP) and FA Community Development status.

Cheerleaders entertain the crowd at Half-time.
