MISSION STATEMENT

Sutton United FC (Gambia) is a football club founded by some catholic children who at the time came together for daily Bible classes in 1999. The club’s aim has always been to create a sustainable club for the long term which will be owned and democratically be run by its members, which is accessible to the village and its near by surroundings and one in which they can participate fully.

Sutton United FC (Gambia) is intended to create a football club which addresses the concerns which many local fans have had over the last decade or more with how clubs and football have developed, culminating in the unprofessional strategies past club’s have been managed. We will follow the best traditions of former past local teams by developing policies which encourage nation wide football development, professionalism in the game, youth participation and over all discipline in terms of both playing and supporting.

Sutton United FC (Gambia) will be formed as a member-owned, democratic, and non-profit making entity on the Industrial company model. The EGM once constituted will focus on the election of a board of directors by the members, the appointing of roles and titles to members and the direction of the club over the coming seasons.

We have ambitious and long term plans but unfortunately the club’s income will mean a slow process to achieving these goals. Above all we want to be seen as a good example as been the first professional approached managed club in the country and also how a good club can be run in the interests of its members and still benefit its local communities. However, we are a young and an inexperience club and will require a lot of time and patience in order to reach our goals. With the help of all our members and supporters we are confident we can achieve them.

Below are the principles of how the club will operate, and once agreed by the membership, will be protected by all elected Board members:

   1. The Board will be democratically elected by its members.

   2. Decisions taken by the membership will be decided on a one member, one vote basis.

   3. The club will develop strong links with both local and international communities and strive to be accessible to all, discriminating against none.

   4. The club will endeavor to make valuable contacts with foreign based clubs for much advanced development.

   5. The club will encourage both young and old local participation – playing for the young and supporting for both i.e. Young and old - whenever possible.

   6. The Board will strive wherever possible to gain as much fame as possible as well as commercialism.

   7. The club will remain a non-profit organization.
