Their slow start to the season is beginning to lurch towards a mini crisis as U's failed to spark against very limited opposition. When Wilson came and then went back to a 3rd minute corner, Cooper was given a free header 6 yards out to give the visitors the lead. For nearly 10 minutes the U's looked totally clueless but were galvanised by a break initiated by Greene, carried on by Montague who passed wide towards McBean despite seeming to be clear himself. Tanner ended up crossing the ball but Hudson's looping volley was easily caught under the bar by Wells. McBean then tried his luck down the left, getting stopped once but then managing to square the ball to Taiwo, 6 yards out and unmarked, who wasted the first gilt-edged chance of the afternoon by spooning the ball over the bar. Montague was denied a fairly clear-cut penalty when he was held from behind trying to jump for a free-kick but suddenly it was all Sutton, the ball was being moved quickly, and mainly on the ground, and the visitors were looking decidedly shaky. Wilson was forced into a good low save by Daly after a long clearance by the visiting keeper but most of the action was at the other end. Montague chased down a long ball and held it up for Taiwo, but his curling effort from the edge of the box was comfortably high and wide. Montague then headed over from a Tanner cross before Wells clung onto a powerful Taiwo free-kick that was a bit too centrally struck. A wayward pass by Honey let in Wilson-Dennis for a chance but Wilson got down well to save. U's really should have drawn level as the half closed. First Montague found himself tussling with the last defender, twisting and turning to spurn two shooting chances before finally opening up the goal only to catch his studs in the turf as he went to pull the trigger. Seconds before the whistle the move of the game, involving Greene, Hudson and Honey released Tanner racing through the inside right channel, He chose to shoot early despite being unchallenged and allowed Wells to make a save high to his right.

The second half was a complete non-event until
Scarborough equalised with a near post header from a left wing corner. Instead of pushing on for the win in the manner that they had displayed before the interval, the U's allowed themselves to be pushed back by Maidenhead's direct approach. When Taiwo squandered possession in the right back slot, Tanner was caught out of position on the other flank and could not prevent the cross that was turned home from close range by Telemacque. Worse was to follow when Gonsalves, under little pressure, delayed his pass far too long and allowed himself to be robbed by Newman, who rounded Wilson for the killer third goal. Montague quickly pulled a goal back, thumping the ball in after the Maidenhead defence failed to deal with a bouncing ball, and U's were again denied a penalty when Hudson's crossed was charged down by an arm. With virtually the last kick of the game Henry could have grabbed a point but failed to make proper connection at the far post.

U's quickly need to find a finish to their approach work and recover their confidence. Oh, and cut out the errors.
