U's started positively, but when they lost possession on their left the visitors had a 3 on 2 break which led to an easy tap-in for Docker. Still the U's continued to dominate possession but another breakaway by the impressive Charlie Henry saw his leave Bray for dead and then skip past Scarborrough before rifling past Wilson from a narrow angle. With Greene and Buari looking dangerous whenever they got the ball U's needed a quick response. When a long ball fell for Tanner his shot was blocked and then McBean headed over the bar. But last season's top scorer did pull a goal back when he got on the end of Hudson's long ball and Montague did enough to take the centre-half out of the game.  A great flick and turn by Buari and a one-two with Montague almost put the former Fulham man in but he ended his strong run with a weak cross. McBean then headed Bray's cross over when well placed before Wilson tipped Henery's 25-yard drive over the bar. Greene shot over from a free-kick after Tanner had been pushed and U's were left wondering how they weren't level by the break, but it could have been worse. With almost the last kick of the half Docker forced Wilson into action but the ball ran free for Awuah, whose shot was beaten away by Wilson with his legs.
The introduction of Jason Henry gave U's a bit more pace but as the game wore on the graeter fitness of the full-timers from Dorset started to show. It was a bitty half, and U's could not recapture the rhythm they had displayed before the break. Tanner shot narrowly wide from 18 yards after being set up by McBean, who himself shot over after ghosting past three men (although a corner was given !). Dorchester's Henry shot wide from a poor defensive header by Scarborough but as U's pushed for the equaliser they were caught again on the break, Henry calmly finishing off a move that had started with a Sutton attacking throw-in.

Dorchester:- Behcet, O'Brien, Smeaton (Jermyn), Annan, Browne, Bowles (Forbes), Henry, Gleeson, Awuah, Docker, Bent (Evans).
