Leatherhead 0 (0) - Sutton United 2 (2)
U's rounded off their pre-season with a comfortable win against a Tanners outfit who had previously beaten United's first league opponents Basingstoke. Watkins provided the perfect springboard with a strike after just 150 seconds, latching onto a loose ball and knocking the ball over the centre half before cracking home a volley from the edge of the box. Greene then slid in a pass to Henry on the left and his cross was headed over by a rising Watkins. Graham replaced the goalscorer as a precaution against his thigh injury but U's were still slick in attack and when Tanner passed the ball through the defence both Henry and McBean were in space, but last season's top scorer took charge to knock the ball past the keeper with the outside of his boot. Tanner then shot wide after clever interplay with McBean before McBean lobbed the ball over an unguarded net after the keeper dropped a cross. Henry put in another livewire performance and was denied a goal when he just managed to poke a through ball out of the keeper's reach before a defender cleared the loose ball.
With Scarborough missing next week's league game because of suspension, he was replaced at half time and Palmer went into the middle. U's had few scares despite making several changes and Henry's pace might have brought another goal or two but the young forward showed he is still learning at this level.
