Latest News   Sutton v Billericay preview
23rd April 2010
There should be a celebratory atmosphere when Sutton face Billericay at Gander Green Lane tomorrow as Sutton stage a second Community Fun Day in conjunction with the local Metropolitan Police Safer Neighbourhood Scheme, while the Supporters' Club and Strikers' Club will present their Player of the Year awards. With Sutton having confirmed second place in the table and secured home advantage in next week's play-offs, and Billericay having comfortably saved themselves from relegation last week there isn't a great deal riding on the action on the pitch, with U's looking to finish with a 'double' after their 1-0 win at New Lodge a fortnight ago and atone for last season when Billericay were the only side to beat U's home and away. U's will have an eye on events elsewhere, though, with any one of six clubs still in with a chance of visiting Gander Green Lane next Tuesday. Although Billericay appointed Craig Edwards as manager this week he is allowing John Mifsud, caretaker since the departure of Brian Statham in March, to take charge of the team who will be hoping they can end his tenure on a high note. Sutton manager Paul Doswell says that Thursday night's Surrey Senior Cup win has given him some nice problems in terms of team selection.''It's always nice to reach a final, and it's reward for everyone's hard work over the past few weeks - I picked up a new car about five weeks ago and it's already done about 4,500 miles, mainly on football business, so it makes things like that worthwhile. We've taken the competition seriously, with most of the first team players involved in the first two games and then more recemtly a nice blend of reserves and fringe players that have needed games, and everyone's come out tonight with credit. Steve Perkins, Francis Quarm and James Hawes have all said that they feel as though they need time on the pitch, so they'll start on Saturday, Wayne Shaw will come in for Kevin Scriven in goal and Andre Costa, who was cup-tied tonight, will come in to the squad. After that it will be mainly players who have done well tonight, which gives me a lot to choose from.''
