After another midweek in which Sutton saw some of their championship rivals drop points, U's will look to take advantage tomorrow when they entertain Canvey Island at Gander Green Lane, kick off 3pm. With Bury beaten at Harrow and Lowestoft held to a draw by Maidstone, Billericay took advantage to move in to third place with a win at Cray on Tuesday, and they play Bury in one of the games brought forward to a lunchtime kick-off tomorrow to avoid a clash with the Wales v England European Championship qualifier, meaning that U's should know by the time they kick off what their lead is at the top of the table.
Canvey Island promises to be a stern test, though, with the Essex side themselves not entirely out of the picture and well placed for a play-off position due to games in hand over all seven of the sides above them. Since U's came from a goal down to record an excellent 3-1 win at Park Lane in January, Canvey have lost only one of their twelve Ryman League games and have won the last four, while they also have a good record at Sutton, having won on five of their six league visits. Sutton, though, are unbeaten in the league at home this season and have won their last six in the league at Gander Green Lane. Paul Doswell should be able to choose from a fully fit squad.
