Latest News   Sutton v Cray Wanderers preview
12th September 2008

One effect of Sutton's relegation from Blue Square South was to bring forward by one round U's entry to the FA Cup sponsored by E.ON, and so tomorrow sees Cray Wanderers visiting Gander Green Lane for a 1st qualifying round tie that has been selected by ITV as one of their games to have highlights shown on the ITV.com website as part of their FA Cup coverage this season. The teams might have been league adversaries this season, with Cray only narrowly beaten by Tooting in the Ryman League Division One South promotion play-off final in May, and the Kent side, who share Bromley's Hayes Lane ground for home games, have made a steady start this season, moving up to 4th place after Tuesday's 2-0 home win against Whitstable although  they have yet to win on their travels and suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat at Metropolitan Police last month. They beat Chichester City United in the preliminary round, and will go in to the game hoping for better luck than at this stage last season, when they lost 6-2 at home to AFC Wimbledon. Three seasons ago they did reach the 4th qualifying round, however, before being beaten at Grays. U's and Cray have met in the FA Cup before, U's winning 5-1 at Cray's old ground in Sidcup in October 1974, when their opponents played in the Metropolitan League. After Tuesday's draw against Staines, Karim El-Salahi looked likely to be Sutton's main fitness worry as he is struggling to shake off a groin injury, and although Chukki Eribenne and Dean Palmer both picked up minor knocks manager Paul Doswell was hopeful that they would be fit for tomorrow's game. Also eligible is midfielder Karl Murray, on loan from Bromley who have given permission for him to play. If tomorrow's game is drawn, the replay will be at Hayes Lane next Tuesday, 16 September, kick off 7.45pm.
