After a season which has seen them sweep all before them in the Southern Youth League, winning all 14 games in the Central Division and with the championship playoffs still to come, Sutton’s youth team go in search of silverware tomorrow night when they face Croydon at Gander Green Lane in the Southern Youth League Cup final (kick off 7.30), looking to lift the cup for the third consecutive year, and the fourth time in five seasons. U’s other cup interests this season have ended against Woking in both the FA Youth Cup and the Surrey Under 18 Floodlit Cup, their only two defeats all season, but victories against Westfield, Chipstead, Raynes Park Vale and Merstham, scoring 24 goals and conceding one, have earned them a place in tomorrow’s final against a Croydon side who were their nearest challengers in the Central Division this season, but lost to Sutton three times in a six week spell before Christmas, 5-0 and 3-2 in the league, Jonny Humphreys scoring a hat trick in each game, and 2-1 in the Surrey Under 18 cup. |
