Latest News   Celebrity Football comes to Gander Green Lane

A charity football match will be played between Sutton United F.C. Veterans and a team of celebrities from the sporting & entertainment world on Wednesday 20th May at Gander Green Lane, kick off 7.30pm. Admission is only £5.00 for adults and £2.00 for concessions. 

The two nominated charities are Queen Mary's Hospital For Children & The Sutton M.E./C.F.S.Support Group.
 
The Sutton United squad, which will contain members of the team that beat Coventry City in the FA Cup twenty years ago as well as a host of popular players from their other successes, is: Trevor Roffey, Robyn Jones, Tony Rains, Vernon Pratt, Nigel Golley, Paul Rogers, Micky Stephens, Phil Dawson, Matt Hanlan, Lennie Dennis, Paul McKinnon, John Rains, Ian Hazel, Paul Harford, Peter Fear, Simon Quail, Bobby Green, Steve Rogers, Mark Watson, Steve Watson, Barry Laker, Ricky Kidd. Manager: Ted Shepherd

The celebrities’ team will be led by former Chelsea defender Gary Chivers, along with another former Stamford Bridge defender Keith Dublin, while ex-West Ham, Reading and Charlton manager Alan Pardew is also expected to be in the line-up along with Steve King, who led Lewes to the Blue Square South championshipin the 2007-2008 season. Their side will have a Sutton United connection as well, with Clive Offer, who kept goal for U's during their Isthmian League championship season in 1984-85, between the sticks and Eddie Akuamoah, a member of the squad that finished second in the Ryman League in 2003-4, also involved. Non-footballing celebrities include chef Gary Rhodes, while the world of the ‘soaps’ will be represented by actors Tom Craig, who played Tommy Harris in Coronation Street and is also well known for his appearances in Where the Heart Is and more recently The Murdoch Mysteries, and Rocky Marshall, otherwise known as hospital registrar Ed Keating in Holby City. From the music industry Spandau Ballet saxophonist Steve Norman will be in the celebrity squad.
