Memories of Sutton's most famous FA Cup run may be stirred on Saturday when U's entertain Walton & Hersham in the 3rd qualifying round of this season's competition. The last FA Cup meeting between the sides, in October 1988 and in the 4th qualifying round, saw U's go through in a replay at Walton after a 1-1 draw at Gander Green Lane, and launch the run that would see them beat Coventry before going out at Norwich. Walton are in Division One South of the Ryman League and have made a good start to the season, their one competitive defeat coming at home to Worthing in a league game just after the draw had been made. They will be looking for a second Premier Division scalp, having beaten Cray Wanderers at Stompond Lane in the first qualifying round, and U's will have to keep a particular watch on striker David Tarpey, who has scored eleven goals in six games since joining on a dual-registration basis from Hampton last month, including all five of Walton's FA Cup goals so far and, most recently, a 90th minute equaliser on Tuesday that forced their FA Trophy replay against Whitstable in to extra time before Walton prevailed in a penalty shoot-out. Sutton have doubts over Danny Phillips, Stefan Payne and Jason Goodliffe, who all picked up knocks in last Saturday's win at Aveley, but new signing Steve Perkins, who was a member of the Stevenage squad that held Newcastle to a draw in the third round in 1998, is added to the squad. Stefan Cox and Billy Chattaway are both cup-tied, and Jerson Dos Santos, who signed a contract on Thursday night, is likely to start for the reserves in their Suburban League game against Metropolitan Police.
There will be a bucket collection at half-time in aid of SUFC Gambia.
