Playing with the strong wind behind them in the first half, Sutton raced in to an unassailable four goal lead by half time in this top of the table clash. Only three minutes had passed when Daniel Harding ran on to a through ball from the left that the Leatherhead defence failed to clear, and rounded the keeper before firing in a shot that was cleared by a defender but from behind the line, the goal taking Harding in to double figures for the season. Midway through the half U’s took a firmer grip with two goals in four minutes, the first an unstoppable 25 yard effort from Billy Chattaway which crashed in off the post, and then Harding volleyed in from close range after a fine run and cross from Stefan Cox. It was nearly three in five minutes when Elliot Mitchell’s shot deflected off a defender and was tipped on to the bar by the keeper, with Dunn firing the rebound over, and Harry Ottaway also hit the bar with a shot from Cox’s cross, but Ottaway was on the scoresheet before the break when Harding again went through to beat the keeper before crossing for Ottaway to score with a neat header which was again cleared but from behind the line. With the game over as a contest the second half was a low-key affair, but Billy Dunn made it 5-0 just before the hour with a free kick that went straight through the ‘wall’, and although Paul Smith’s one save came from a similar effort five minutes the game finished with U’s on the attack as Cox fired just over.
