Saturday 31 October – Suburban League Premier Division

AFC WIMBLEDON 3 SUTTON UTD 2

James Cottee, a member of U’s youth team last season, came back to haunt his former colleagues with two goals in the last six minutes, the second a last minute winner,  as U’s reserves lost their unbeaten record against second placed AFC Wimbledon. Wimbledon went ahead with a shot from the edge of the area that beat Paul Smith at his near post, but within five minutes Us were level as Jerson Dos Santos tricked his way to the right by-line and then picked out Stuart Young with a cross which Young fired past the keeper. Wimbledon had the better of the rest of the first half with two shots going wide, and Smith off his line quickly to rescue the situation after a bad back pass had threatened to sell him short, but after the break it was Sutton who gained the upper hand as Tommy Kavanagh curled in a volley which was spectacularly tipped away by the keeper, who also blocked a Jazz Gold shot on the line following a free kick. A game of suitably high quality for a meeting of the top two looked to be heading for a point each when it sprung to life with six minutes to go. Cottee headed in a cross from the left to put Wimbledon ahead, Harry Ottaway beat the offside trap to lift a shot over the keeper two minutes from time and seemingly save the point for U’s, but another Cottee header in the last minute proved decisive.
