Saturday 14 November – Suburban League
TONBRIDGE ANGELS 3 SUTTON UTD 4
Sutton opened up a twelve point gap at the top of the Suburban League despite a strong comeback from Tonbridge after U’s had gone 4-1 ahead. U’s went in front in the 6th minute when Jazz Gold curled a delightful shot beyond the goalkeeper after Jerson Dos Santos had done well on the right before pulling the ball back. Tonbridge levelled three minutes later with a volley which took a slight deflection to beat Nick Taylor, but U’s were soon back ahead thanks to the conditions as much as anything when Stuart Young’s corner swung in on the wind and the keeper could only help it in to the net. Young hit the outside of the post soon afterwards, and Dos Santos saw a chip drift wide of the post, while at the other end Chris Beard deflected a goalbound shot away. Early in the second half, though, U’s seemed to have taken control as Elliot Mitchell’s superb pass put Gold through to score with a low shot. Dos Santos had a shot saved a minute later, but just after the hour mark he was fouled just outside the penalty area and Tommy Kavanagh’s curling free kick went in off the post. Within five minutes, though, Tonbridge were right back in the game with two goals in a minute, and before the end they put another good chance wide while in the last minute Taylor made a fine save to preserve U’s lead.
