Saturday 27 August– Suburban League
SUTTON UTD 1 FARNBOROUGH 0
Bajrush Halili’s first half penalty enabled Sutton to extend their 100% record as for the second consecutive game they found themselves playing against ten men. Farnborough almost scored early on, a poor clearance from Lawrence Jelley allowing an opponent to cross in to the six yard box where Jack Stafford made a crucial intervention to keep a close range shot out. On the half hour Sean Sinclair headed wide from Sutton’s first good chance, but three minutes later Jimmy Harding’s shot was handled on the line, and although the referee originally waved play on the assistant had spotted the offence, which earned the defender a red card and gave Halili the chance to score from the spot. Halili had the chances to repeat the previous week’s hat trick in the second half, but the opposing keeper was in good form, saving two efforts at the second attempt and the turning away Halili’s angled shot twelve minutes from time, while Igho Eyarhono sent a dipping 25 yard volley just over.
