Saturday 17 September– Suburban League
SUTTON UTD 0 TONBRIDGE ANGELS 1
A penalty inside the first fifteen minutes was enough for Tonbridge to take all three points despite the majority of chances falling to Sutton, who found the opposing goalkeeper in fine form. Bajrush Halili missed one good early chance when he headed wide from Karl Douglin’s cross, but then Elliott Tomkins mistimed a sliding challenge in the penalty area and Tonbridge went ahead from the resulting spot kick. U’s only hope of an equaliser before half time was a good shot by Jack Stafford which was well saved, but in the second half they created several good openings without being able to force the equaliser. Douglin was the most prominent attacker, having one shot well saved and another cleared off the line, while he also shot over after being put through on the right. Lewis Taylor and Elliot Mitchell both went close from long range, and in the last two minutes the keeper made two more good saves, both from Halili, the second a miraculous reaction save on the line from a close range back-heeled flick.
