Saturday 29 October – Suburban League Cup 1st round 2nd leg
CROWBOROUGH ATH 0 SUTTON UTD 2
Sutton win 6-2 on aggregate
Leading 4-2 from the previous week’s first leg, Sutton eased in to the second round of the Suburban League Cup, two second half goals earning a two-legged tie against Eastbourne Borough. Jimmy Harding had the game’s first chance, dragging a right foot shot wide, but Crowborough replied with a header from a free kick that went just wide, and a long-range free kick that clipped the top of the crossbar Matt Robinson had a volley saved, and was then denied by a more spectacular save as he shot from an angle after being put through by Harding, and Chris Sessegnon also shot just over, but with U’s at times struggling on an uneven pitch surface they were unable to break through, and the second half followed a similar pattern with Sessegnon, Kevant Serbony and Elliott Tomkins all coming close, but just after the hour a superb solo run by Serbony took him past a string of defenders and he finished with a low shot past the keeper. Five minutes later Robinson was barged over as he ran on to a Sessegnon pass, and picked himself up to score from the penalty. Crowborough pressed for a late consolation, and Jon Williams was lucky when he half-stopped a shot and saw the ball roll just wide, and again when he tipped a corner against his own bar, but he made a fine save near the end as U’s saw the game safely out.
