SUTTON UTD 3 EASTBOURNE BOROUGH 3
After a good start, Sutton found themselves 3-1 down at the half time break but stormed back to claim a point after a three week break from action. There was little sign of rustiness in the first fifteen minutes, and after Kevant Serbony had twice missed chances to put U’s in front the first goal came when Elliot tTomkins had a shot saved by the keeper, but stayed in the area and was on hand to score when Serbony’s effort also came back off the keeper. Four minutes later, though, Eastbourne were level from their first attack when a quick free kick put a striker through to cut in and score, and then in a seven minute spell either side of the half hour the visitors were in control, firstly scoring after U’s failed to clear a free kick, and then a good move ending with a glancing header from a right wing cross. The Eastbourne keeper made a fine save from Matt Reece’s shot, and Serbony sliced wide when well placed, but early in the second half, after a fine block by Tomkins had stopped a dangerous looking counter-attack, U’s pulled one back when Serbony’s fine work on the right ended with a pull back to Reece, whose cross was steerd home by Matt Robinson. He might have had another five minutes later but for a good save, but U’s were soon level when the referee spotted a push on Louis Blake as a free kick came in and Reece converted the penalty. The closest either side came to a winner was when Reece’s low shot was scrambled round the post by the keeper, while Eastbourne, unhappy at the penalty award, were reduced to ten men in stoppage time when a player picked up a second yellow card.
