Wednesday 23 November – Suburban League
SUTTON UTD 3 TOOTING & M 1
Despite going behind against the run of play, Sutton came back to claim the points against Tooting and by the end might have won by a wider margin. U’s forced the early chances, with Lewis Taylor curling a free kick just over and Matt Robinson’s shot saved at the second attempt, but Tooting almost went ahead with their first attack when a shot came back off the post. U’s still created openings, with Elliott Tomkins heading disappointingly wide from a free kick and Robinson’s cross tipped over by the keeper as he back-pedalled, but ten minutes before half time it was Tooting who led with a crisp volley from a right wing cross. It took U’s just two minutes to reply, though, as Serbony met a Tomkins cross with a diving header. Robinson, Steve McKimm and Serbony all sent shots just wide or over before the break, and after an early second half scare when Elliott Orris spilled a shot and both he and Chris Beard had to block follow-up efforts, U’s regained the initiative but struggled in front of goal, Matt Reece coming closest when he scooped a shot against the bar and over when it looked easier to score. He made amends in the 63rd minute, though, when he was put through by Robinson on the left and drilled his shot past the keeper. Three minutes later Reece turned provider when he crossed for Louis Blake to score with a low shot, and Tooting rarely looked likely to get back in to the game.
