Wednesday 11 November - Lucas Fettes Isthmian Youth League Cup
Burgess Hill Town 0 Sutton United 3
An accomplished performance saw Sutton progress through to the next round of the Lucas Fettes League Cup, goals from James Page, a Joe Wornham penalty and late debut strike from Luke Farrer clinching the victory. Page hit Sutton’s first shot very early on just wide of goal, Jordan Bird also played an early ball in that was dummied by Page only for Ope Fashoro to sky over the bar as Sutton got into their stride very quickly. Burgess Hill never really troubled Elliot Orris, also making his debut in goal, all game and he came out and punched away a corner before taking a tame shot easily. Sutton took the lead when good work from Fashoro down the right wing saw him square the ball to Page at the front post who put the ball in the from close range giving Matthew Skeets in the Burgess Hill goal no chance. Sutton were knocking the ball around well, patiently creating chances, Lewis Lovelock having a shot put out for a corner at the near post, and Page turning on the edge of the box and shooting just around the post. Page was again in on goal from a Fashoro knock on and he beat the keeper but again shot just wide. Kien Millington also shot just off target after Joe Wornham had cut the ball back from the by line. Sutton were finishing the half well and a hopeful punt forward from Dan Faulkner went straight to the keeper's hands but he dropped it, Fashoro claimed the loose ball and played it out to Bird who laid it into Wilson on the edge of the box but his shot went over the bar.
Fashoro was brought down in the penalty area early in the second half which gave Joe Wornham the chance to dispatch the penalty to give Sutton a deserved two goal lead after 49 minutes. Page and Manning both also shot over the bar as Sutton’s dominance told, though the goals weren’t coming. Carpenter shot wide as he came in from the right before Burgess Hill had their best chance with Dan Faulkner off the field after going over on his ankle, when a through ball that Matthew Daniel chased onto was dealt with easily by Orris with Young in close proximity of the striker. Late on Bird’s deep ball into the box was put over the bar by Skeets and from the resultant corner Luke Farrer ran unopposed to the near post to head in an easy chance to seal victory.
