Redhill 3 Sutton United 7
In a high scoring Surrey Under 18’s Floodlit Cup game Sutton managed to score the goals that recent performances have deserved and pull away and claim victory after a pretty even first half with an impressive four goal haul from Bajrush Halili, a brace from Josh Gallagher and a first goal in Sutton colours for Kien Millington.
Gallagher had Sutton’s first chance of the game when heading an Ope Fashoro cross just wide, very soon after the constantly strong and impressive Redhill No.11 Emmanuel Oloyede ran through and slotted past Elliot Orris to give Redhill an early lead. Sutton equalised almost immediately when George Winter’s cross wasn’t dealt with, Millington had time in the box to half volley the ball past the keeper at his near post. Halili almost put Sutton ahead inside 10 minutes when his run from deep and shot went through the keeper's legs but deflected just wide. Gallagher made up for his early miss with an unstoppable volley at the back post following a Halili flick from a Lewis Wilson cross. Redhill got a goal back when Oloyede was given space in midfield, he unleashed a thunderbolt from 30 yards that Orris couldn’t keep out. Fashoro was lively and dropping wide right to pick up the ball, his cross was met by Gallagher, whose header was put out for a corner. Robbie Drewett’s resultant corner gave Sutton their two goal lead back when the ball fell to Gallagher to score again with a dipped volley, put over the keeper’s head, ending the scoring in the first half.
Redhill started the second half well after an excellent double save from Alex Greaves in the Redhill goal, their centre forward shooting wide, followed by another good save from Greaves denying Gallagher his hat-trick. A goal soon came to reduce the lead to one goal again as Lewis Grinham got up well to head home off of the crossbar from a free kick on the edge of the box. Halili rattled the crossbar on the hour from 30 yards out and Winter forced a save out of the keeper with the follow up. Redhill were denied the opportunity for an equaliser when an important Drewett challenge denied their number 9 a clear run on goal. Halili then put the match out of sight for Sutton with a superb hat-trick inside 5 minutes when firstly, he barrelled through a challenge and had time to pick his spot to put past the Redhill stopper. Secondly a Wilson cross fell nicely for him to lob the ball over the keeper from close range before he finishedfit off a minute later when turning his marker, cutting inside and beating Greaves at his near post.
