Youths Emerge Victorious in 9-Goal Cup Thriller

3 October 2016

Sutton's Under-18s eventually won through to the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup after a nailbiting 5-4 win at home against Molesey. Rommel Hunte-Christie scored the solitary first half goal which gave no indication of the excitement to come, as two goals in as many minutes from Sam Whatley and Arun Astley turned the scoreline around and Loreaz Manolias looked to have sealed the win for the visitors in the 86th minute, but an 88th minute penalty from Tom Mallett and Crossley Lema's injury time header took the game into extra time. Josh Danquah put Sutton back in front in the 93rd minute and Stefan Ilic added a 5th with 3 minutes to play, but there was still time for Molesey to pull a goal back through Max Lewis to set up a nervy last 90 seconds. Match report here. The draw for the 3rd Qualifying Round will take place on Friday. Meanwhile Sutton begin their defence of the Surrey Under-18s Midweek Floodlit Cup next Monday 10th October at South Park, 7.45pm kick-off.
