Community Team in Plucky Defeat

9 April 2017

Sutton United Community Team visited the very impressive Brighton & Hove Albion training ground in Lancing today.Brighton in the Community is one of the largest Community scheme in the south of England and they have several Disability teams, today we were up against their very best teams, the Brighton Elite Pan Disability Team.

Brighton & Hove Albion 5 Sutton United [Mills 2 Taylor] 3Sutton United Community proved today in sunny Lancing just how far we have come in the last 2 years. The U's took an early lead when the hard-working Josh Taylor got behind the Brighton defence to put the U's in front ;we didn't need to wait long for our second goal and top goalscorer Shaun Mills scored in impressive style.Brighton battled back strongly from this early set-back ,pinning the U's defence back. U's keeper young Mark Heritage made several good saves but it was no surprise when Brighton scored two quick goals midway through the first half . The U's fought back into the game as it became stretched end to end with both teams now creating chances and it was Brighton who took theirs, adding another 2 goals late into the first half. 4-2The second half saw the U's now looking the stronger team and with the U's defence looking a lot stronger with Campbell, Ford, Dixon and Wilson in control the chances were still coming for both teams but it was the U's now well top. It  was the impressive Mills who scored again to make it 4-3. With the game in the balance it was Brighton who scored late and deserved the 5-3 FT result. This was such an encouraging display from the U's against a very strong, experienced and impressive Brighton & Hove Albion team.  The U's Community team have come so far in 2 years and are now competing with the best elite disability teams in the South. It has been a truly remarkable journey as the U's prepare to join the Elite Disability teams in 2017/18.U's team squad : Herridge, Dixon, Ford R, Ford M, Wilson[c], Campbell, Hales, Mills, Taylor, Evans, Leconte, Chandler and young Anthony Carter.
