Round-Up; Success for Girls, Boys and Veterans

11 June 2017

It's the time of year when the trophies are handed out and although our first team finished their season a few weeks ago football has most certainly not stopped at Sutton United or for our various teams playing in a wide range of competitions.

On 10th June the Sutton United Community Teams visited the Fulham Training Ground in New Malden after being invited by our Surrey FA Football For All friends; Surrey Blues FC.   Sutton United and Surrey Blues have built up a nice friendship and it was fantastic to join them for a mini tournament in such great surroundings.

There was super football played by all of the teams with Sutton United Hunters Aniks Sunil, Harry Philips and Matt Evans playing some great stuff. The Sutton U's team again showed great team spirt and had the lively young 16 year-old striker Tommy Campbell looking very impressive once again.  Sutton United A team were warming up for the Irish FA George Best Community Cup in Belfast later in June and played some good football, with Ryan Ford now playing in goal making some impressive saves.

The mini tournament came down to the final with the Sutton United team being selected from amongst all of our teams and it was Sutton who won the Cup with a 3-0 win in the final, with two goals from teenage goal scoring sensation Tommy Campbell and a goal from the impressive Joe Hales.

The week previously the U's celebrated beating Bracknell to the Surrey FA Mens' 60+ walking football league.

The sport was designed to help older men who want to keep fit or try football as an activity and there are games every Wednesday, from 10.30 to 11.30am, at Sutton Sports Village.

Surrey FA has asked Sutton United to take on the management of the sessions and coach Steve King is pleased with how the game is growing. “Sutton United has got a large community program and we're expanding all the time,” he said. “Surrey FA asked us to take over the walking football and numbers are growing, it's a really fantastic time to get involved."

For further information on how to get involved, contact Rob Hardy, Sutton United community officer at hardysat20@aol.com or call 07881 505961.

At the opposite end of the age spectrum many of our girls and boys teams have also been celebrating as the tournament season gets under way.  We would like to congratulate the following teams on their successes:-
