Gateshead report, photos and reaction

8 September 2017

Sutton and Gateshead shared the points after a game of two first half penalties. Danny Johnson put the Tynesiders ahead after he had been fouled by Louis John, but just before the half hour Simon Walton, occupying the central defensive vacancy caused by Jamie Collins' broken nose, also assumed Collins' spot kick responsibilities to equalise after Craig Dundas had been tripped by Theo Vassell. Sutton laid siege to the Gateshead goal in the later stages but were unable to grab the winner. Substitute Tommy Wright, awarded the Player of the Month trophy for August before the game, missed the best chance while Craig Eastmond was denied by a brilliant Dan Hanford save.
