Scunthorpe v Sutton preview

19 August 2021

After two games against sides against whom Sutton have played at National League level, U's face new opposition on Saturday with a visit to the Sands Venue Stadium to face Scunthorpe United.

Both sides go in to the game looking for a first League Two win of the season, although Sutton have taken encouragement from two games away to two of the pre-season favourites, with a first point coming at Salford last week.

Scunthorpe, who were only three points ahead of relegated Southend at the end of last season, started this campaign with a home defeat to Swindon and have followed that with two draws, goalless at Rochdale last Saturday and then scoring a last minute equaliser at Walsall on Tuesday. Like Sutton, they went out of the Carabao Cup at the first round stage, beaten by a spectacular only goal from Dimitri Sea at Barrow.

Managed by former Wimbledon and Notts County assistant manager Neil Cox, Scunthorpe have two players that may be familiar to Sutton supporters, with Emmanuel Oniarise and Miles Hippolyte signed at the start of last season from Dagenham and Yeovil respectively, but striker Aaron Jarvis, who was with U's for the first half of the 2019-20 season, is unlikely to feature having been out with injury since midway through last season.

Sutton are still likely to be without Will Randall and Tobi Sho-Silva, and are hoping that a couple of minor knocks picked up during the last week will have been overcome by Saturday.
