Chesham United v Sutton United – details for first friendly

12 July 2021

Following a late change of fixture, Sutton will begin preparation for the EFL season with a friendly away to Southern League Premier Division South Chesham United on Tuesday, kick off 7.30pm.

Chesham were in seventh place when the 2020-21 season ended, although their three home games had seen them fail to score, with two goalless draws and a 1-0 defeat against Swindon Supermarine. They did play Torquay in the third round of the FA Trophy, losing 1-0.

It will be the first meeting between the sides since April 2003, when a 2-0 win for Chesham at The Meadow in the last week of the season wasn’t enough to prevent them being relegated from the Ryman League Premier Division, although U’s have visited The Meadow subsequently to face Aylesbury United, winning 1-0 in the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup in October 2008.

Admission to the game on Tuesday is all pay on the night with cash or card, £5 for adults, £3 concessions (over 65; students with valid ID; Under 18s) and free for Under 12s.

Chesham’s The Meadow Ground (Amy Lane, postcode HP5 1NE) is best reached by leaving the M25 at junction 18 and taking the A404 towards Amersham. About a mile and a half after Chalfont & Latimer station turn right at a mini roundabout to go under the railway and then immediately left at another roundabout. At the end join up with the road out of Amersham to Chesham and at the foot of the hill on reaching Chesham turn sharp left at a roundabout in to the ground.

Chesham underground station on the Metropolitan Line is served by trains from London about every half hour – return trains after the game are at 27 and 57 minutes past the hour. Journey time is just under an hour to Baker Street, and it’s about a ten minute walk to the ground. Walk out of the station and head down Station Road towards the High Street. Turn left and walk through the town until you reach a pedestrian crossing (opposite the Red Lion). Cross the road and bear left by the pub then continue walking until you pass two petrol stations which are opposite each other. At the next roundabout the third exit takes you into Chesham United’s ground.

We hope to provide an audio commentary on the game on our Mixlr channel.
