Mixed fortunes for women's teams

18 September 2022

Sutton's women's teams had mixed fortunes this afternoon as the first team suffered defeat away to Millwall Lionesses in Bermondsey, but the reserves and Under 21s both started their South East Counties Women's League seasons with victories.

As at Dulwich a fortnight ago, the damage was done in the first half against Millwall, who led 4-0 at half time thanks to two goals from Otesha Charles and one apiece from Gemma Bryan and Kadence Kabadaki, all the goals coming in the last 25 minutes of the half. Sutton pulled one back with fifteen minutes to go through Kelly Poynton, but Angel Reid restored Millwall's four goal advantage before the end. As at all games this weekend, the teams observed a minute's silence in memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II before the game (above).

There was better news from our other two teams, though, with the reserves winning 1-0 away to Ashmount Leigh at Nutfield in the SEC Surrey Premier Division and the Under 21s enjoying a 2-1 SEC Surrey First Division win against Beecholme Belles in Collingwood Recreation Ground.

Next week the first team head to the Sussex coast to face Saltdean United, while the reserves are at home (in Collingwood Rec) to Reigate and the Under 21s are away to Old Tiffinians in East Molesey. All three league games kick off at 2pm.
