Narrow defeat for academy team

6 January 2023

Sutton's academy side went down to a 2-1 defeat at home to Gillingham on Friday morning, missing the chance to move above the Kent side in to third place in the EFL Youth Alliance South East Division.

Gillingham took the lead early on, but Sutton had equalised by half time through Jake Tones, who scored with a deflected free kick from the edge of the penalty area. The scores stayed level until ten minutes from the end when a Gillingham substitute struck what proved to be the winner.

Next Tuesday's scheduled EFL Youth Alliance game at home to MK Dons has been moved back to Tuesday 31 January, kick off 11am, which means that the next game is away to Leyton Orient on Saturday 14 January.
