Cup final disappointment at Dorking

21 May 2023

Sutton's hopes of picking up silverware to end the season ended in disappointment as Ashmount Leigh completed the South East Counties League double of the Surrey Premier Division championship and Surrey Divisional Cup.

Ashmount Leigh, who finished eleven points clear at the top of the Surrey Premier Division with an unbeaten record, scored twice in the first half and despite an improved second half performance from Sutton there were two further goals as Ashmount Leigh completed a 4-0 success. There was good Sutton representation in a crowd of 334 and our thanks to everyone who went to Dorking to give the team their support.

Sutton will finish third in the table regardless of the result of the last game of the season this Thursday, against AFC Acorns at East Grinstead Sports Club, kick off 7.45pm.

The first team's season ended with a defeat against Aylesford, the Kent side picking up a third league win of the season with a 4-3 success. Olivia Watson, Caitlin Savage and Sarah Chapman were our scorers. We will finish 8th in the league following Dartford's win against Enfield today, which lifted them above us. As for the championship, it goes to the last game of the season after both Ebbsfleet and Worthing won today. Worthing will be champions if they beat AFC Acorns on Tuesday, but anything less will give Ebbsfleet the title - should Worthing draw they will miss out by a goal difference of one.
