Sutton v Swindon preview

31 March 2024

After Friday's win at Salford, Sutton will look for a fourth EFL success in a row on Easter Monday when Swindon Town are the visitors to the VBS, kick off 3pm.

Like Sutton, Swindon go in to the game on the back of a 2-1 win on Friday, their victory over Notts County ending a run of three successive defeats, with Notts County playing a huge part in their own downfall, and that win moved Swindon on to 47 points alongside Salford and should just about have extinguished fears of being dragged in to the relegation fight. Only Grimsby have won fewer away games in the league this season, Swindon's two successes coming at Accrington and Forest Green. At the County Ground in September they raced in to a three goal lead, only for U's to fight back with two goals before half time, with a debatable offside decision then denying Josh Coley a goal that would have made it 3-3. Swindon went on to win 5-3, but Jake Young, who scored twice in that game and was at the time the division's leading scorer, has now returned to parent club Bradford City while impressive midfielder Dan Kemp was also recalled in January by MK Dons. Former Sutton striker Aaron Drinan scored the first goal on Saturday and is likely to be in the Swindon line-up.

Sutton will be looking to record a run of four consecutive EFL wins for only the second time, the first coming in September/October 2021 against Carlisle, Northampton, Port Vale and Crawley, and having been temporarily outside the relegation zone on Friday until Colchester's stoppage time winner against Newport, will hope that the recent form can continue to put pressure on the sides immediately above U's in the table. Last season's meeting at the VBS saw late goals from Lee Angol and Ali Smith give U's a 2-1 win after Charlie Austin, also likely to be involved on Monday, had given Swindon a first half lead.

Referee Thomas Kirk is in his second season as an EFL referee, and was at the VBS earlier this season for the visit of MK Dons.

Tickets are on sale on line to Sutton supporters here, price £21 for adults, £15 for concessions and £7 for ages 12-18. Under 12s are admitted free if accompanied by a paying adult or concession. Seat prices are £4 more in all cases. Remember that by buying on line, even on the day of the game, you can avoid the £2 increase in price that is charged for tickets bought in person at the ground on Monday. Tickets for Swindon supporters will be available at the away turnstiles from 1.30pm.

The Sutton fanzone will be open at 12.30 as usual with a Signal Hour from 12.30pm until 1.30pm when beer is £3.50 a pint. Ambers' will also be open before the game showing the Championship game between Leicester and Norwich.

Anyone not at the game can watch a live stream of the game as it is a Bank Holiday, with a match pass costing £10. Passes can be bought here. A match programme can also be ordered to be delivered after the game, price £3 plus postage, and you can order your copy here.

We are pleased to say that a full scheduled service is running on Thameslink through West Sutton on Monday.
