Siju Odelusi arrives from Aveley

31 May 2024

We are delighted to confirm the signing of Siju Odelusi from National League South side Aveley, joining on a one-year deal with an option of a further year.

The versatile midfielder won many plaudits for his performances at the heart of the Millers’ team, and last season scored a whopping 17 goals from midfield to win the club’s Player of the Year award.

A trainee at West Ham United, Odelusi has worked his way up non-league, beginning his senior career at Tilbury FC where he appeared 31 times and going on to turn out for Witham Town, Leiston, Hayes & Yeading United, Northwood, Westfield and Haringey Borough, prior to his move to Aveley in 2022.

He would make 27 appearances during his first season at Parkside, helping the club win a second successive promotion from the Isthmian League Premier Division via the play-offs. The 25-year old opted to renew his deal in Essex ahead of the 2023/24 season, appearing 44 times as they finished seventh and competed for a third consecutive promotion, although they would lose to Maidstone United at the quarter-final stage.

Nonetheless though, the former West Ham man impressed throughout the campaign with his tenacity in midfield, as well as popping up with 17 goals and establishing his penalty taking ability with 12 spot-kicks converted. His full tally was bettered by just four players in the entire division and also included the first hat-trick of the National League South season, netting a treble in a 4-1 win over Taunton Town back in August 2023. A self-proclaimed defensive-minded player, Odelusi’s performances also saw him named in the National League South Team of the Season.

Commenting on the capture of Odelusi, manager Steve Morison said “Siju, the big man with a big smile…we’re pleased to have him on board with us.”

“He was in the top 5% in ball winning from League One to the Conference South and is also not bad at penalties. 17 goals last season for Aveley in a play-off reaching team from the middle of the pitch.”

“His first steps into full time football I hope will help him be even better and we will get to see the best version of himself and that will help us massively in achieving what we want on and off the pitch.”

Welcome to Sutton United, Siju Odelusi!
