George Vorster has been named Ashford Town (Middlesex)’s Young Player of the Season following a successful loan spell in the Isthmian League South Central Division.

Vorster had initially joined the Surrey-based outfit back in November on a short-term loan deal alongside fellow academy graduate Liam Moore, before seeing the move extended to the end of the season two months later, and has now been deservedly recognised at the end of an impressive campaign.

The talented forward has rewarded the faith shown by Tangerines’ boss Luke Tuffs, becoming an ever-present across Ashford’s frontline alongside both Moore and Joden Trickett, who also spent the 2024/25 campaign at the Robert Parker Stadium.

Vorster however shone more than anyone during his stint in Surrey, and ended the season as Ashford’s joint-second highest goalscorer alongside Basim Mirtahmasebi with nine goals, being bettered only by Jack Arnold’s 16 strikes.

His first came with a late hit against Westfield on Boxing Day to make it 3-2, and staged an impressive comeback that resulted in Ashford equalising in stoppage time having trailed since the first half.

Other notable contributions included the third and fourth goals of a 5-0 romp over Guernsey, the second goal of a 3-1 win over Raynes Park Vale along with an assist for Prince Kandolo’s winner, a brace in a 3-0 victory over Badshot Lea and a crucial strike against Westfield that put the Tangerines ahead, and set Tuff’s side on their way to a 4-1 victory.

Furthermore, Vorster racked up 26 appearances for the club – a fine tally for the 18-year old’s maiden campaign in men’s football.

We would like to thank Ashford for their role in his, as well as Moore’s and Trickett’s development, and wish them all the best in the Combined Counties League in their attempt to return to Step 3, following relegation.

Congratulations, George!
