Charlie Bell gave an emotional post-match reaction after scoring his first goal for Sutton, on what was his league debut away at Woking.
The midfielder, who was named in the starting XI for the second time for the club, found his moment midway through the second half when a Dillon De Silva cross was flicked on by Ashley Nadesan and into the path of the 17-year old, who produced a superb, acrobatic effort that flew into the corner to draw level at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.
“It was brilliant” he said”, “a great feeling, scoring in front of the away fans as well. I just want to thank [Jon] Meeney for it as well, I thought he gave me the chance and I took it with both hands.”
“There was no thoughts in the celebration really. I just ran, no fears. Great feeling, best feeling.”
On the whole, Bell produced an impressive performance in the centre of the park, and played a key role as the U’s secured their first points since the win over Carlisle United in a display that in some aspects, he said differed from academy football.
“I thought we dug deep. I thought first half we was in the game, we got a bit unlucky with the penalty shout as well, but we dug deep throughout the whole game and draw a fair result.
The fans I think put a lot of pressure on it. But yeah, no, I don’t think it’s much different. I think when you’re out there, I think you zone in really.”
