About

Mainly Madness are a group of Two Tone loving musicians that bring the Madness experience to you. Not only are Mainly Madness a tribute to the great band itself but also a celebration of Two Tone and Ska, which include such inspirational bands as The Specials, Bad Manners and The Beat to name a few. This fantastic genre of music manages to make you smile and stomp your feet to the rock steady beat. Whether male, female, young or old, Mainly Madness will leave you wanting more.

The Band

  • Saxaphone – Neil “Skanking” Franks

Born in early 1914, NSF picked up the call sign “Skanking” in the army, a time he rarely likes to talk about. He was born to play ska, and was involved in the early two tone scene, blending jazz flute with the Jamaican beats. For Mainly Madness he is the heart of the Horn Section, playing both Tenor Sax and Flute. He moonlights playing sax for “No Jacket Required”.

  • Drums – TomTom

Interesting fact: the Tom Tom was actually named after our drummer – previously they were known as bingerdy bongers. Tom comes from a background of Jazz drumming, meaning he is far too good to be playing in a Ska band. We try not to let him know this and never give him the chance for a drum solo – who knows what would happen.

  • Lead Vocals – JB

Our Front-Man and chief Harmonica player, JB only has to remember to bring Shoes and a Mouth Organ to each gig, and normally forgets both. Check out his artwork at https://jbartworks.co.uk

  • Keys – Mikey Fingers

He may only have 10 digits, but my does Mikey know how to use them. He is the heart of the Rhythm section, covering all the great Piano & Hammond riffs, as well as throwing in the odd blast of strings and steel pans.  We believe his beard has become semi-sentient and now goes by the name of Colin.

  • Trombone- Tombone

The shrinking wallflower of the Band, you are unlikely to notice Tombone on stage. He has developed a trombone playing technique that involves waggling the slidey bit about, and hoping for the best. Want to get in touch? You can email him on: tombone@mainymadness.com

  • Guitar- Mark

No one is better when it comes to off beat guitar chops. One of the quietest guitar players ever to be known, Mark is also the man to speak to if you want to book us. Buy him a Guiness and you will have a friend for life. Just don’t get too close to the front of the stage – you may end up pregnant.

  • Bass – Jordan

Born in Normandy France, Jordan speaks very little English. He does all his talking via his fingers, stroking out all of the classic ska bass lines with skill. Never give him a bottle of Jack Daniels or we will be without a bass player for a gig.

  • Trumpet – Joe Jackson

By far and away the best musician in the Band, Joe Jackson is not only our Trumpet player, but also Deps on Drums, Bass, Keys & Lead Vocals. You never know where in the band Joe might be playing!
