Sutton United Football Club would like to thank all the fans that, at short notice, turned out to support the team in a positive and enthusiastic manner on Tuesday evening.
As alluded to by the new manager in his post-match interview, the support, and in particular from the area behind the goal at the Collingwood Road end of the stadium, was a factor in the result. Noticeably all three of our goals were scored at that end, and the cliche of being the team’s 12th man was ultimately true.
That enthusiastic support of the team was evident from the start and continued to the final whistle, regardless of whether we were drawing, losing, and ultimately in a winning position – even if that was only for a solitary minute!.
Pleasingly too across the stadium there were no reports of inappropriate behaviour or language, and with no repeat of any use of illegal items brought into the stadium, or thrown onto the pitch. The Club welcomes the clear backing to its stance of wishing to eradicate such behaviour, and the positive universal adoption of that approach during the week.
Supporters may have noticed a couple of small changes to the stadium last night as we continue to roll out our adoption of our obligations under Martyn’s Law and a tighter segregation of supporters from non-public areas used by match participants. Can we gently remind you that being present in the area past the green gates in the car park isn’t permitted, and that leaving the stadium, which includes the external doors from the bars, might mean no re-entry.
On behalf of the Club, and the new management team, can we thank you and look forward to seeing your attendance against Hartlepool United on Saturday (5:30 KO) as we strive to continue the current unbeaten run and add to the victories at the VBS Community Stadium.
