Following on from the news that our Sustainability Lead, Dave Farebrother (left), had been shortlisted in the Sustainability Champion of the Year category at the BASIS Sustainable Sports Awards, we’re delighted to report that Dave won the award at the presentation event held at the All England Lawn Tennis Club at Wimbledon on Thursday. The award reflects the work Dave has done during and since his time as Chairman of the Board of Directors, most recently joining the OurBike scheme and in conjunction with the Ryan Canter Club installing a public EV charger at the club that is available to club staff and the public.
You can find more details of our sustainability schemes, and our regular Sustainability newsletters, here.
Receiving the award, Dave said: ‘As is the nature of these things, the award isn’t just about one person so I’d like to thank the directors for supporting the programme of initiatives I put in place when I was Chairman of the Board and also a supporter, Liam McSherry, who saw what we were trying to do and volunteered his help. Hopefully the schemes we’ve put in even in the last couple of weeks will help the club and the community reduce its carbon footprint for travel, while our stadium sponsors, VBS, did amazing work recycling the waste from our stadium redevelopment and put in all our heat pumps. Like any SME we can’t do it all on our own, and we’re delighted to work with our partners in the borough to hopefully achieve a more sustainable future.”
Our congratulations and thanks to Dave on the award and his efforts on the club’s behalf.
