Goal A
David Ogbonna vs AFC Telford United – 1st November
David Ogbonna broke the dead lock five minutes before half time, paving the way for Sutton to dispatch of National League North side AFC Telford United in the Emirates FA Cup First Round.
A left wing move that looked to have fizzled out was revived as Junior Eccleston played in Jayden Harris on the left, and his low cross was deftly flicked home by Ogbonna, a strike made better by a backflip celebration, giving Sutton a crucial lead at the VBS Community Stadium on his return from injury.
Goal B
K’Shaela Burch-Waldron vs Dartford Women – 2nd November
K’Shaela Burch-Waldron struck right at the start of the second half to give Sutton United Women the advantage against Dartford Women, a goal which turned out to be the winner as Lucy Clark’s side stretch their unbeaten run to nine games.
After Sutton had appeared to have weathered the storm and went into the break level, they turned the tide of the game shortly after the restart and snatched an unlikely lead, Burch-Waldron lobbing Dartford’s goalkeeper after a well-worked free kick.
Goal C
Lewis Simper vs Eastleigh – 5th November
A flowing and confident first half display from Sutton saw David Ogbonna give his side the lead when he finished off a superb team move – via Nick Townsend parrying a Jayden Harris shot into his path – and just after the half hour mark the second goal come in arguably even sweeter fashion.
An inauspicious start to the move saw the U’s give the ball away inside their own half, but a superb tackle from Edon Pruti not only averted the danger, but also released Lewis Simper to burst forward, exchange passes with Ashley Nadesan, and slot his a first-time left foot shot beyond Townsend in to the corner of the net.
Goal D
Brandon Njoku vs FC Halifax Town – 15th November
A deserved lead courtesy of Junior Eccleston’s first goal for the club was doubled within 15 minutes as Kai Jennings displayed the sort of quality that highlights why he is so highly-rated at parent club AFC Wimbledon.
Indeed, just after the half-hour mark Sutton had an even firmer grip on the game with Jennings the creator, seeming to miss a chance to get a shot away but instead creating space on the right of the penalty area to chip in a cross that Brandon Njoku brought down before sweeping past the helpless Sam Johnson on the volley.
Goal E
Emma Spear vs Newhaven Women – 16th November
Emma Spear notched an impressive opener away at Newhaven, opening the scoring for Sutton to bounce back from their first defeat in nine outings away at Bromley the previous week.
After Milly Cutler had had two early chances when played in from the right, on both occasions being denied by the Newhaven goalkeeper, the breakthrough came when Spear ran beyond the defence on to latch onto a long pass from K’Shaela Burch-Waldron, before taking the ball round the oncoming keeper before rolling it in to the net.
Goal F
Kai Jennings vs Truro City (First) – 22nd November
Kai Jennings added a second goal for Sutton with a rocket of a shot that gave Dan Lavercombe no chance, doubling their lead away at Truro City
The U’s came out at the start of the second half determined to press home their one-goal advantage; Osman Foyo dispossessed Zac Bell to race clear and power in a shot which Lavercombe tipped over, but then, after Foyo and Simper had found the way to goal blocked in the penalty area, Hayden Muller laid the ball back to Jennings to shoot first time in to the top far corner of the net.
Goal G
Kai Jennings vs Truro City (Second) – 22nd November
On-loan midfielder Kai Jennings continued his impressive run of form, particularly in front of goal, by sealing a brace late on against Truro; the third and final goal in a topsy-turvy affair that saw the Tinners come back from 2-0 down to level moments earlier through a couple of Lirak Hasani strikes.
A repeat of the Wealdstone outcome would have been U’s supporters’ fears, but two minutes later Brandon Njoku was put in on the right and pulled back a cross which was eventually laid back by Lewis Simper to Jennings, who took a touch before volleying powerfully home from the edge of the penalty area and restoring Sutton’s lead which this time they held.
Goal H
Lewis Simper vs Southampton – 25th November
Sutton may have been eliminated from the National League Cup already, but they bowed out of the competition in style by sweeping aside Southampton in their final group game to move off the bottom of Group D.
It took just nine minutes for the U’s to lead when the lively David Ogbonna laid the ball back for Lewis Simper, who had almost found a way through in the first minute, to drive a low 20-yard shot between goalkeeper Hugo Fisher and his near post.
Goal I
Brandon Njoku vs Southampton – 25th November
With Sutton hanging onto a narrow lead against Southampton and keen to avoid a penalty shootout, Brandon Njoku put things beyond doubt with the goal of the night in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
Jack Taylor and Hayden Muller launched an attack from midfield, allowing Aaron Jones to put Junior Eccleston in on the right and his superb cross was done full justice by a thumping header from Brandon Njoku in off the bar.
Goal J
Lewis Simper vs Gateshead – 29th November
Lewis Simper adding another outstanding strike to his showreel, giving Sutton the lead early on in the second half as Sutton swept past Gateshead.
The first five minutes of the second half proved the decisive period as the U’s came out from the break on the front foot, and within 30 seconds of the restart Jake Taylor, Simper and Jayden Harris linked well to release Junior Eccleston on the right and he laid the ball back to Simper, who won last season’s Goal of the Season with an effort against Gateshead and who set up the possibility of a repeat result with a stunning dipping, curling shot from 25 yards out.
Goal K
Jack Taylor vs Gateshead – 29th November
Jack Taylor rounded off a superb display against Gateshead by putting the icing on top of the take with a fourth goal, and his second for the club.
The defender, of all players, broke clear on the left from Eduino Vaz’s pass and ignored any thoughts of heading for the corner flag to surge in to the penalty area, hold off the challenge of Aidan Elliott-Wheeler, and slot the ball inside the far post before disappearing in to a huddle of celebrating fans.
