Getting to the Ground

Stadium Address:

VBS Community Stadium

Gander Green Ln

Sutton

SM1 2EY

By Car

Travel along the M25, exiting at Junction 8. Then travel north on the A217 for about 15-20 minutes. Ignoring signs for Sutton itself, stay on the A217 to the traffic lights by the Gander Inn (on the left), turn right into Gander Green Lane. The Borough Sports Ground is about 200 yards up this road on the left hand side. If you reach West Sutton Station you have gone too far.

On matchdays, the club car park in Gander Green Lane is for parking permit holders only. Away fans should park in Gibson Road, the local municipal car-park. It takes no more than 15 minutes to walk from Gibson Road to the stadium. Click here for more information regarding parking, while a map of Gibson Road can be found here.

By Rail

It is recommended that visiting supporters use Sutton station, which is on the main lines out of Victoria and London Bridge and is at the top end of Sutton High Street, about 20 minutes’ walk from the ground. Two buses between Morden and Sutton stations run conveniently close to our stadium: route 413 bus goes down Gander Green Lane, and number 80 runs along Collingwood Road. The ground can then be reached by taking the path through Collingwood Rec.

West Sutton railway station is adjacent to the ground. It is served by Thameslink trains via Wimbledon or Sutton. Come out of West Sutton station and turn right into Gander Green Lane and the ground is about 100 yards further along. Away fans should walk past the main entrance and after about 70 yards turn right into Collingwood Recreation Ground, where the away turnstiles 5-8 are situated.

By Bus

The 413 service runs past the ground down Gander Green Lane. The bus leaves Sutton town centre from outside the main post office. The 80 route from Hackbridge to Belmont runs down Collingwood Road. The ground can be reached by taking the path through Collingwood Rec. Both routes also connect with the Northern Line at Morden.

London Buses are now cashless. Fares are a flat £1.75, and this includes multiple journeys within a one-hour period of the first “touch in” with a contactless payment card or Oyster card.

Accessibility

All accessible entrances will be open as detailed in the stadium map below:

We currently have spaces for ten wheelchair users (seven home, three away) and we would ask anyone who needs to use this facility to book in advance (contactus@suttonunited.net). If any wheelchair user needs to park at our stadium, please let us know in advance and we will make arrangements to welcome you. We have accessible toilets at both ends of the ground and in the main stand. Ambulant supporters will need to climb a handful of steps as there are currently no lifts.

For more information, supporters can access the club’s FAQs, which can be found here.

Full Fan Guides for both home and away fans can also be accessed here.

Footballing activities will be available in the fanzone, including table football, as well as the bar and club shop being open.

Stat Attack

1 – While Forest Green have largely got the better of Sutton in this fixture, their 4-0 win back in August was the first time the deficit has been by more than one goal.

3 – At least one of the two sides have drawn a blank in this fixture on just three occasions, going back to 2016/17.

4 – Forest Green have scored 44 goals conceded 24 goals this season – only four teams in the division have scored and conceded less.

6 – This will be Sutton’s sixth home league game against Forest Green.

Last Time We Met

Two goals in each half saw Sutton fall to a 4-0 defeat away at Forest Green Rovers.

The Green took an early lead when some good work down the right flank from Tre Pemberton and Nick Haughton led to the opening goal after just five minutes, with the latter twisting inside and out before being tripped by the returning Eduino Vaz, and allowed Kyle McAllister to open the scoring from the penalty spot.

The hosts then doubled their advantage 20 minutes later when a corner bounced around the box before being headed in off the post by Jordan Taylor-Moore, and gave the U’s a mountain time to climb heading into the second half.

Despite a half time switch by Steve Morison, with Kane Crichlow replacing David Ogbonna, Robbie Savage’s side continued to dominate after the restart, with Harry Whitwell making it three when he slotted past Jack Sims with 20 minutes to go, and they added a fourth minutes later through McAllister’s second of the evening, turning home a Yahya Buyabu cross to condemn the U’s to a disappointing defeat on the road.

Played for Both

Omar Bugiel

Lebanon international Omar Bugiel fired Sutton to both promotion and a top half finish in League Two across a successful four-year stint, but turned out for Saturday’s opponents just a year before his move to SM1.

Born in Berlin, Germany, Bugiel began his career in the youth setup at 1860 Munich before moving to England at the age of 16, having spent four years at the Grünwalder Stadion before being released in 2009. Settling in Sussex, he initially moved with the aim of learning English before joining the ranks at Chichester City, and later turned out for a handful of sides around the county with moves to Selsey, Burgess Hill Town and Bognor Regis Town, before moving to Worthing in 2014.

A successful three years at Woodside Park saw him rack up over 100 appearances, while his prolific form in front of goal saw him earn a move to Forest Green Rovers midway through the 2016/17 campaign, and became part of the Forest Green side that were victorious in the National League play-offs at the end of the season.

He subsequently became the first Lebanese international to appear in the EFL and went on to score eight goals for the club in total, before making the switch to Bromey in January 2018 on loan, a move which soon became permanent, and he went on to score in the’ FA Trophy final at Wembley, with the Ravens falling to defeat at the hands of Brackley Town.

Bugiel later made the switch to Sutton in June 2019, and Gander Green Lane became his home for the next four years as he fired home 22 goals for the U’s as they rose from promotion hopefuls to an established League Two side, with the forward notably becoming Sutton’s first ever goalscorer in the EFL with a header against former club Forest Green.

A successful stint in League Two with the U’s led to him earning a move to AFC Wimbledon, where he currently resides, and has racked up over 100 appearances for the Dons since making the move in 2023.
