Getting to the Ground

Stadium Address:

VBS Community Stadium

Gander Green Ln

Sutton

SM1 2EY

By Car

Travel along the M25, exiting at Junction 8. Then travel north on the A217 for about 15-20 minutes. Ignoring signs for Sutton itself, stay on the A217 to the traffic lights by the Gander Inn (on the left), turn right into Gander Green Lane. The Borough Sports Ground is about 200 yards up this road on the left hand side. If you reach West Sutton Station you have gone too far.

On matchdays, the club car park in Gander Green Lane is for parking permit holders only. Away fans should park in Gibson Road, the local municipal car-park. It takes no more than 15 minutes to walk from Gibson Road to the stadium. Click here for more information regarding parking, while a map of Gibson Road can be found here.

By Rail

It is recommended that visiting supporters use Sutton station, which is on the main lines out of Victoria and London Bridge and is at the top end of Sutton High Street, about 20 minutes’ walk from the ground. Two buses between Morden and Sutton stations run conveniently close to our stadium: route 413 bus goes down Gander Green Lane, and number 80 runs along Collingwood Road. The ground can then be reached by taking the path through Collingwood Rec.

West Sutton railway station is adjacent to the ground. It is served by Thameslink trains via Wimbledon or Sutton. Come out of West Sutton station and turn right into Gander Green Lane and the ground is about 100 yards further along. Away fans should walk past the main entrance and after about 70 yards turn right into Collingwood Recreation Ground, where the away turnstiles 5-8 are situated.

By Bus

The 413 service runs past the ground down Gander Green Lane. The bus leaves Sutton town centre from outside the main post office. The 80 route from Hackbridge to Belmont runs down Collingwood Road. The ground can be reached by taking the path through Collingwood Rec. Both routes also connect with the Northern Line at Morden.

London Buses are now cashless. Fares are a flat £1.75, and this includes multiple journeys within a one-hour period of the first “touch in” with a contactless payment card or Oyster card.

Accessibility

All accessible entrances will be open as detailed in the stadium map below:

We currently have spaces for ten wheelchair users (seven home, three away) and we would ask anyone who needs to use this facility to book in advance (contactus@suttonunited.net). If any wheelchair user needs to park at our stadium, please let us know in advance and we will make arrangements to welcome you. We have accessible toilets at both ends of the ground and in the main stand. Ambulant supporters will need to climb a handful of steps as there are currently no lifts.

For more information, supporters can access the club’s FAQs, which can be found here.

Full Fan Guides for both home and away fans can also be accessed here.

Footballing activities will be available in the fanzone, including table football, as well as the bar and club shop being open.

Stat Attack

2 – Gateshead’s last league win came all the way back in September, and have since picked up just two points, with draws against Brackley Town and Truro City.

2 – Since Chris Agutter’s first game in charge away at Braintree Town, Sutton have scored at least two goals in every game since.

7 – Last season’s 4-3 loss at the Gateshead International Stadium brought the most goals in this fixture, beating Sutton’s 4-2 win in 2019.

9 – Gateshead’s Kain Adom is the only player to rank in the top five of the National League’s goalscoring charts whilst playing for a team in the bottom half, scoring nine times, 11 in all competitions.

Last Time We Met

Second half goals from Alex Kirk and Lewis Simper weren’t enough to secure a fantastic turnaround over Gateshead, with goals from Luke Hannant and Jack Roles punishing Sutton United late on.

Gateshead took the lead after just 16 minutes when Roles sent a low effort past Jack Sims, having previously gone close just minutes earlier before getting the better of the Sutton goalkeeper at the second attempt, and the hosts doubled their lead through Jevon Malcolm with an exquisite effort nine minutes before the break.

Will Davies gave the U’s a lifeline in stoppage time though when he slid the ball beyond Harrison Bond, injecting some much needed momentum in Sutton’s side which resulted in Kirk levelling the score just five minutes after the restart when he poked home the rebound of a vicious initial effort from Besart Topallaj.

And Sutton took the lead moments later in unbelievable fashion, with a clearance falling as far as Simper 35-yards from goal, before sending an outstanding half-volley into the top corner with Bond having no chance.

The U’s lead lasted just 17 minutes though, with Hannant producing a remarkable half-volley of his own that flew into the top corner to equalise for the Heed, and preceded Roles’ second goal of the game to complete a turnaround for the hosts, as the Heed midfielder combined nicely with Malcolm who’s initial effort was blocked back into the path of Roles, who produced some some tricky footwork that allowed him space for a shot, and proved enough to steal the three points from Sutton’s grasp.

Played for Both

Kain Adom

Former Sutton loanee Kain Adom has enjoyed a blistering opening few months to the campaign, and currently sits fifth in the division’s goalscoring charts.

The 23-year old began his career Hanwell Town, where he shot through the lower leagues and earned a move to Welling United, where he struck seven goals in 23 appearances for the Wings, and his form in the National League South subsequently saw him receive interest from elsewhere, making the jump up to the fifth tier with a move to Gateshead midway through the 2023/24 campaign.

The explosive winger subsequently enjoyed a rapid impact on the Heed, netting his first goal in just second appearance, and went on to be a key part of former boss Rob Elliot’s team with 20 appearances to his name come the end of the season.

He since added a further 27 appearances this term during the first half of the season, but found himself in the departure lounge at the Gateshead International Stadium following the departure of Mike Williamson, with a loan move to AFC Fylde being confirmed in February.

However, the dismissal of Kevin Phillips brought a change in leadership at Mill Farm, and thus saw Adom deemed surplus to requirements during his short stay in Lancashire. As a result he made the move to Sutton for the final two months of the season, appearing seven times for the U’s under Steve Morison, before returning to Gateshead in the summer, where he has gone on to force his way into the starting XI on a regular basis with a superb goalscoring streak this term.

Adom has notched nine times in the league, bettered only by York City’s Ollie Pearce (15), Carlisle United’s Regan Linney (12), Rochdale’s Mani Dieseruvwe (11) and Boreham Wood’s Matt Rush (11), as well as a further two in cup competition.
