While the majority of trains to Hartlepool require a handful of changes, there is a less frequent service that runs directly from London King’s Cross.
Take the Thameslink to King’s Cross St. Pancras before walking across to London King’s Cross to catch a Grand Central Railway service terminating at Sunderland, alighting at Hartlepool.
Alternatively, there are more frequent trains which initially take the same route. From King’s Cross catch a London North Eastern service terminating at Edinburgh (Waverley), alighting at York before taking a TransPennine Express service to Redcar Central, alighting at Thornaby. It is then an 18-minute journey to Hartlepool, taking a Northern service towards Carlisle. In total, the journey could take up to five hours.

Last Time We Met
For the second Saturday running Sutton rescued a draw with a goal deep in to stoppage time to maintain the unbeaten record since Chris Agutter took over as Head Coach. For periods of the game U’s seemed on course for victory, leading through Lewis Simper’s goal at half time, and then, after Luke Charman had equalised for Hartlepool early in the second half, regaining the lead through substitute Brandon Njoku, who for the second Saturday in a row came on in the 57th minute and scored in the 60th. Questionable defending then allowed Hartlepool back in to the game and seemed to have gifted the managerless team all three points when Jermaine Francis put them ahead with six minutes to go, but, against one of his former clubs, Edon Pruti’s unstoppable header from a Simper corner in the sixth minute of stoppage time earned U’s their point.

Played for Both
Jermaine Francis
Jermaine Francis has made three appearances for Sutton since joining from Hartlepool United last month, but now returns to his old stomping ground after just a short stint with the U’s so far.
Having begun his career in the academies of Queens Park Rangers and Reading, Francis later spent a year in the Under-19s at London Tigers, while also playing for Chelsea’s Under-19s Representative College Team, though he never officially played for the club’s academy.
This was followed by a move to Essex Alliance League club DTFC, a side who was formed in 2019 by AFTV contributor Liam Goodenough. Now known as Cannons Wood, Francis appeared 11 times for them across two separate spells, either side of a brief stint at Coggeshall Town, before moving across Essex to join Hashtag United.
He became a regular in the centre of the park for the Tags, scoring 14 goals in 30 league appearances as they won the Isthmian League North Division, less than a decade after their foundation in 2016.
His form in the eighth tier led to a move up the pyramid, and following a trial at Barnet and a brief return to Cannons Wood, Francis making the switch to National League South Chelmsford City, where he continued his rapid rise up non-league by featuring 42 times in the sixth tier. This was followed by a permanent switch to Barnet, who had rekindled their interest in the midfielder, and he subsequently played a bit-part role in the Bees’ promotion to League Two last term, whilst spending the bulk of the season out on loan at Braintree Town, before joining Hartlepool United on a permanent deal last summer, where he appeared 22 times, before making the move to Sutton.
