Getting to the Ground

Stadium Address:

VBS Community Stadium

Gander Green Ln

Sutton

SM1 2EY

By Car

Travel along the M25, exiting at Junction 8. Then travel north on the A217 for about 15-20 minutes. Ignoring signs for Sutton itself, stay on the A217 to the traffic lights by the Gander Inn (on the left), turn right into Gander Green Lane. The Borough Sports Ground is about 200 yards up this road on the left hand side. If you reach West Sutton Station you have gone too far.

On matchdays, the club car park in Gander Green Lane is for parking permit holders only. Away fans should park in Gibson Road, the local municipal car-park. It takes no more than 15 minutes to walk from Gibson Road to the stadium. Click here for more information regarding parking, while a map of Gibson Road can be found here.

By Rail

It is recommended that visiting supporters use Sutton station, which is on the main lines out of Victoria and London Bridge and is at the top end of Sutton High Street, about 20 minutes’ walk from the ground. Two buses between Morden and Sutton stations run conveniently close to our stadium: route 413 bus goes down Gander Green Lane, and number 80 runs along Collingwood Road. The ground can then be reached by taking the path through Collingwood Rec. London Buses are now cashless. Fares are a flat £1.50, and this includes multiple journeys within a one-hour period of the first “touch in” with a contactless payment card or Oyster card.

West Sutton railway station is adjacent to the ground. It is served by Thameslink trains via Wimbledon or Sutton. Come out of West Sutton station and turn right into Gander Green Lane and the ground is about 100 yards further along. Away fans should walk past the main entrance and after about 70 yards turn right into Collingwood Recreation Ground, where the away turnstiles 5-8 are situated.

By Bus

The 413 service runs past the ground down Gander Green Lane. The bus leaves Sutton town centre from outside the main post office. The 80 route from Hackbridge to Belmont runs down Collingwood Road. The ground can be reached by taking the path through Collingwood Rec. Both routes also connect with the Northern Line at Morden.

Accessibility

All accessible entrances will be open as detailed in the stadium map below:

We currently have spaces for ten wheelchair users (seven home, three away) and we would ask anyone who needs to use this facility to book in advance (contactus@suttonunited.net). If any wheelchair user needs to park at our stadium, please let us know in advance and we will make arrangements to welcome you. We have accessible toilets at both ends of the ground and in the main stand. Ambulant supporters will need to climb a handful of steps as there are currently no lifts.

For more information, supporters can access the club’s FAQs, which can be found here.

Full Fan Guides for both home and away fans can also be accessed here.

Footballing activities will be available in the fanzone, including table football, as well as the bar and club shop being open.

Please note that there will be no hospitality for this game, and segregation will also not be in force.

Stat Attack

4 – Arlie Desanges’s tally of 13 goals has been bettered by just four players this season – Badshot Lea’s Luis Hamblin (21), Cobham’s Ryan Marklew (16), Cobham’s Derick Hayford (14), Chipstead’s Carl Oblitey (14).

7 – Only Merstham (11) and Woking (7) have scored more goals than Sutton (7) in the Surrey Senior Cup this season.

9 – It’s been nine years since Ashley Nadesan left Horley, and could face his old side for the first time.

13 – Arlie Desanges is Horley’s top scorer this season, firing home 13 goals since signing from Sutton Athletic in the summer.

Last Time We Met

Sutton’s academy side claimed a second Combined Counties League scalp in the Surrey Senior Cup with an impressive victory at Horley Town.

Apart from goalkeeper Matt Kerbey, as at Epsom & Ewell in the last round, the U’s fielded a side of young academy players and deserved a victory that always looked likely after George Vorster and Vinnie Tume had scored in the first ten minutes.

Sutton might have gone ahead in the first minute, Vorster going clear but denied by goalkeeper George Hyde, with Khyan Edwards seeing his effort from the rebound scrambled off the line, but the two players soon combined to good effect as Vorster met an Edwards cross at the far post with a neat volley, and four minutes later Cameron Sullivan’s chip in from the left was converted first time by Tume to give U’s a flying start.

Liam Moore shot just wide and Joden Trickett had a shot saved at the near post as Sutton came close to extending their lead, but after a scare when Sam Harper shot wildly over after capitalising on a defensive error, and Junior Eccleston was booked for hauling down Joshua Alder, Horley did pull a goal back when Alder received a lay-off from Scott Walker and sent a low first time shot beyond Kerbey in to the corner of the net.

An untidy second half saw few chances at either end, Sutton scrambling the ball away from the six yard box when substitute Cameron  Gyeabore deflected a shot goalwards, and at the other end wasting some promising positions with disappointing crosses. Edwards shot just wide from the edge of the penalty area, but with ten minutes to go Trickett’s low shot was spilled by Hyde and Tume pounced to force the ball in to the net and secure a home tie against Corinthian Casuals in the last eight.

Played for Both

Ashley Nadesan

Ashley Nadesan first came to attention while playing for Horley Town in the Combined Counties League.

The 30-year old scored nearly 100 goals in two seasons for the Clarets, a remarkable tally which has earned him legend status at The New Defence, and later saw him rewarded with a move straight into the EFL, jumping up six divisions when he joined Fleetwood Town at the end of the 2015/16 season.

He went on to make over 20 League One appearances for the Fisherman across a three-year stint, which included two successful loan spells at Carlisle United, becoming an ever-present during his stint in Cumbria, before departing Fleetwood at the end of the 2018/19 season to join Crawley Town, where he enjoyed a particularly successful spell.

Nadesan went on to play over 150 games for Crawley over the next four seasons, notably scoring in the Red Devils’ televised 3-0 FA Cup win over Leeds in January 2021, and otherwise contributing to 55 goals during his stint at the Broadfield Stadium, before joining Gillingham in July 2023.

While he scored on his Gills debut in a Carabao Cup win over Southampton, he otherwise struggled for regular game time after arriving at the Priestfield Stadium, and subsequently spent the 2024/25 season out on loan, moving to Sutton on a temporary deal.

His time in SM1 has proved to be fruitful, with Nadesan playing almost every minute of the National League season as well as notching 16 goal contributions, including late winners against Ebbsfleet United, Southend United and Rochdale and a Goal of the Season nomination against AFC Fylde, and agreed to make the move permanent following his release from Gillingham the previous month.
