Last Time We Met
Sutton fell to defeat at Morecambe when Ged Garner’s goal inside the first five minutes was enough to give Morecambe victory.
The U’s were up against it from just the fourth minute as Joel Senior, whose attacking run had decided the game at the VBS in October, broke out from defence after dispossessing Nino Adom-Malaki and the counter attack saw him exchange passes with Charlie Brown and get behind the defence all too easily before crossing low and giving Garner a tap in.
Steve Morison’s side then rarely threatened home goalkeeper Archie Mair, while they did play some pleasant football at times, and despite a triple substitution at half time which saw Lee Angol, Olly Sanderson and Adom-Malaki replaced by Harry Smith, Omari Patrick and Harry Beautyman, were unable to find a way past Mair.
The Morecambe goalkeeper did have to field long range shots from Patrick and Charlie Lakin, while Craig Eastmond sent U’s best chance over the bar midway through the second half, and proved enough to seal the three points for the Shrimps.

Played for Both
Lee Angol
Lee Angol spent half-a-season at Sutton, playing a brief part in the club’s relegation from League Two before joining Morecambe the following summer, in which he suffered a second successive relegation from the four tier.
The Carshalton-born forward had turned out for a host of clubs after coming through the ranks at Tottenham Hotspur, with loans at Hendon, Maidenhead United and Boreham Wood seeing him gain experience early on in his career.
A brief stint at Luton Town saw him depart White Hart Lane permanently in 2014 and preceded a return to Boreham Wood on loan, firing home 25 goals as the Wood gained promotion to the Conference for the first time, which he earned him a move to Peterborough United. He subsequently established himself as a Football League striker with two separate loan moves to Lincoln City either side of stints at Mansfield Town and Shrewsbury Town, and was followed by spells at Leyton Orient and Bradford City before the experienced striker found himself at Gander Green Lane.
Returning ten minutes away from him hometown, Angol spent two months at Sutton in League Two, but struggled to gain minutes ahead of the in-form Harry Smith, and led to him departing on loan to Woking in March 2024, having originally only joined in January.
He was subsequently released ahead of a first campaign in the National League in four years for the U’s, but Angol found himself remaining in the fourth tier despite this with a move to Morecambe. Despite scoring seven goals for the Shrimps, he was unable to prevent their demise into the National League for the first time last summer, and departed the club after a season with the club enduring a host of off-the-pitch issues.
He has since joined Cheltenham Town where he currently resides, and is yet to score in nine outings for the Robins.
