The last weekend of the pre-season campaign sees Sutton playing on consecutive days with a game against Sutton Common Rovers on Friday evening, and then the Chelsea Under 23 squad on Saturday. Both games are at the Knights Community Stadium, although U’s will be the away side on Friday against a Sutton Common side who will be hoping to feature again this season in the upper reaches of the Combined Counties League, having been eventual champions Chertsey’s closest challengers for much of last season. The sides met last season in the Surrey Senior Cup, U’s winning 2-0.
Tomorrow afternoon U’s face the Chelsea Under 23s, a repeat of the meeting during last season’s friendlies when a goal in each half from Charlie Brown gave Chelsea a 2-0 win. He is listed in the probable squad for tomorrow’s game, as is goalkeeper Karlo Ziger, who played one game for Sutton in the FA Trophy at Spennymoor last season and whose performance was the one bright spot of an otherwise disappointing afternoon.
Manager Matt Gray will use the games to make sure all the players have had enough game time in the pre-season campaign, with the opening of the Vanarama National League campaign at Hartlepool just a week away. Tommy Wright, who returned on Tuesday from a long injury lay-off, is likely to continue his comeback tonight.
Sutton supporters are reminded that the game against Sutton Common is an away game and so Sutton United season tickets are NOT valid. Tickets for the Chelsea game will be available on line at a discounted price until midnight on Friday. Click here to buy.
