The game sees Sutton trying to end the only 100% success record still in the National League after four games, with Chris Maguire’s penalty giving Eastleigh a 1-0 win at Altrincham on Saturday to follow wins at home to Fylde and Solihull, and a 2-0 success at Maidenhead on the opening day of the season. Manager Kelvin Davis, who made nearly 300 appearances for Southampton, took over as manager in February, with Eastleigh finishing 13th in last season’s table before their impressive start to this campaign, in which experienced striker Paul McCallum is one of several players to have scored three goals in the first four games, with Josh Coley’s header against York putting him on the same mark.
That 2-2 with York maintained Sutton’s unbeaten record after four games, and U’s go in to the game in fourth place in the table.
League games between Sutton and Eastleigh have favoured the home sides over the years, with both sides having just one win on their opponent’s ground. U’s one success at the Silverlake Stadium came in September 2007, with Eastleigh having won nine of the eleven encounters, although they haven’t won in the league at Sutton since their first visit in March 2006.
Referee Sam Mulhall is in his third season as a National League referee and is taking charge of his first Sutton match, although he was fourth official for the League Two game at home to Wrexham in February.
