After a sobering trip to Wrexham on Tuesday, Sutton are back on home ground this weekend with FC Halifax Town making the trip from West Yorkshire. Last season the Shaymen were the only team to do the double over U’s, a Michael Duckworth goal settling the game at Sutton in October at a time when nothing was going right for U’s, and a late penalty deciding things at The Shay, again the only goal of the game.
Halifax ended last season in the play-offs, losing at Boreham Wood in the qualifying game despite taking the lead through Tobi Sho-Silva, who will be in the squad against his former team after moving to Sutton in the summer. This season they have had a difficult start, without a win in seven league games since beating Dagenham on the first day of the season and knocked out of the FA Cup at South Shields, but they were only narrowly beaten by leaders Torquay last weekend. Their eight league games have produced thirteen goals, and while only Dagenham have scored fewer, only Boreham Wood have a better defensive record. They will hope to have boosted their strike force with the signing of Nyal Bell on loan from Stockport this week.
Sutton remained second after Tuesday despite the heavy defeat at Wrexham, and hope that Will Randall may be fit to return after missing the last two games through injury.
As always you can watch the game through SUFCtv’s live stream coverage. Sutton United season ticket holders should have received a code enabling them to watch free of charge, while non-season ticket holders can click here to purchase a pass for £9.50.
You can also download free the programme for the game here, which features Matt Gray’s views on the last fortnight, Mark Frake’s look at the 2016-17 season in the latest instalment of his managers’ series, and the letter F in Sutton’s history(can you remember which club we beat to win the London Senior Cup for the first time?)
