After three wins in the last four games to move out of the National League relegation zone and in to the top half of the form table over the past six games, Sutton make the trip to Meadow Lane tomorrow to take on a Notts County side at this level for the first time after their long Football League career ended at the end of last season. It’s not U’s first visit to the ground, as the teams met for the first of three FA Cup ties over the years in January 1994, Sutton coming back from 2-0 down to level at 2-2 in a game that was ten a side for all but the first fifteen minutes, only for Notts County to score a late, disputed winner.
It’s been a rarity recently for U’s to face a side lower in the form table, but after a 4-0 win at Woking that suggested Notts had recovered from a slow start to the campaign and would be making their presence felt in the promotion race, they have failed to win any of their next four games and go in to the game in 11th place, five points out of the play-off zone and seven ahead of Sutton. They have a good home record, with their heavy defeat at home to Barrow three weeks ago their first since they went down to Barnet on the second Saturday of the season.
When the sides met at Sutton in September it finished 1-1, Harry Beautyman’s early goal (above) cancelled out in the second half by Kyle Wootton. Rob Milsom appeared against his former club in that game, having been a first team regular at Notts County last season, and will be hoping to have recovered from injury to feature in the squad tomorrow.
There are reduced prices for tomorrow’s game, with a reduction for buying in advance, and full details are here. Supporters buying tickets on the day must buy them from the cash only away ticket office in the Jimmy Sirrel Stand in County Road.
We will have commentary on the game on our Mixlr site, while those unable to make the trip may want to support our tenants Sutton Common Rovers in their FA Vase replay at home to Lancing.
