After picking up a first Vanarama National League win in eight games at Torquay last week, Sutton will hope to continue that form in front of the home support tomorrow when Bromley are the visitors for a South London derby. Bromley come in to the game in second place in the table, behind leaders Barrow on goal difference, a position that reflects their excellent start to the season which saw them unbeaten in their first thirteen league games.
Since losing that record in a 3-1 defeat at Yeovil, they have suffered further reverses against Barrow, Solihull and Wrexham, and are without a win in their last three league games, but their total of four defeats is still the lowest in the division. They also gave a fine account of themselves against League One Bristol Rovers in the FA Cup and were unfortunate to go out in Tuesday night’s replay, conceding a soft goal inside the first five minutes and having what looked a perfectly good equaliser ruled out later in the first half.
Having lost the services of Marc-Anthony Okoye this week when the defender was forced to retire through injury, Bromley have added to their squad with the signing of striker Ben Williamson from Eastleigh, for whom he has had a good record against Sutton in past seasons.
In the three seasons at this level Sutton and Bromley have shared the points, winning one game each, with Bromley having won once at Gander Green Lane. Last season Jamie Collins scored the only goal of the game to give U’s the points (above).
Sutton’s captain is one of two experienced players who missed the game at Torquay last week through injury and, like Rob Milsom, a late decision is likely to be made on their inclusion tomorrow. There should be a return home debut, though, for Louis John while there is also likely to be a first chance for U’s home supporters to see on loan goalkeeper Nik Tzanev.
Segregation will be in force at tomorrow’s game, so all Sutton supporters should enter through the Gander Green Lane turnstiles, with the Collingwood end reserved for Bromley supporters.
With just four weeks to go before the non-cash prizes are announced in the Amber 500 draw, tickets or shares of tickets are still available and you can buy yours at the club office or in the bar at tomorrow’s game. The non-cash prizes include travelling in the official party to the game at Halifax in February, with pre-match hospitality and directors’ box seats; a chance to spend time with the first team at the game against Yeovil in December; joining the SUFCtv team at a home game, and the chance to see chart-topping band Ash at the Roundhouse in March. Plus, of course, there’s the chance to win up to £7,000 in the draw that will be held on New Year’s Day.
