After a fortnight off from National League action, Sutton head west tomorrow to take on Torquay United, one of five sides covered by just two points at the top of the table, in a game that matches the sides at the top and bottom of the form table over the past six games. The Gulls lie in 5th place, level on points with Barrow, a point behind Yeovil and Halifax, and two behind leaders Bromley, but weren’t able to take that form in to the FA Cup last weekend as Dan Wishart’s goal earned Maidstone a 1-0 win at The Gallagher Stadium.
Torquay have risen to their challenging position thanks to a run of six wins in seven games, with a defeat at Notts County, another in form side, the only blemish on that run, and boast the league’s leading scorer in Jamie Reid, who has 14 goals to his credit. However they have lost three times at Plainmoor this season, with Eastleigh, Hartlepool and Maidenhead all coming away with maximum points. With defender Liam Davis injured, Torquay have signed Ramarni Medford-Smith on loan from Reading.
Matt Gray has also made loan signings this week, with Louis John set to return to Sutton colours on a ground where, on his last visit, he won the injury time penalty that was converted by Jamie Collins to secure a 3-2 win, repeating the scoreline of the meeting almost exactly a year earlier.
There will be commentary on the game on our Mixlr channel as usual.
